而且 my private
As I walked to the Police Station, I tried to articulate for a case for reporting to the Police. I carefully think of whether there were any irregular or suspicious things happened over the past few days…
Okay, on 14 May (Monday) I received this fake email from my high school teacher. I did ignore it! Then … what?
On 16 May (Wednesday), when I was on my way back home, I checked my emails via my iPhone as usual and noted there was a mail with subject “Yahoo Alert”. Its content was about Yahoo is experiencing system congestion and they would disable those inactive email address. If you are an active user, you have to go into the link provided to validate your account…
When you read what I write now, apparently you would know this is fake (or at least it is suspicious). However, I did not think over it much as I thought it’s just like banks cutting down the inactive accounts etc. I almost wanted to validate the account right away but the internet connection was very poor in the subway. So I left this until I got home.
After dinner, I logged in to surf on the net as usual and confirmed that email according to its instruction. After I “logged in” through the link provided there, it led me to a page showing my emails. Though the page’s style is different from the Yahoo mail setting, but its inbox shown emails that I could see via my iPhone etc. After surfing there for a while, I “logged off” from there without imagining something terrible is actually coming up.
Apparently, the above action was really really stupid (when I looked back), and this is actually the first time I click into the link provided by this sort of emails.
When I reported to the Police about this, I clicked on the details to see the address and it shows the mail was sent from an address namely ‘info@Yahoo.com’.
Hmm.. Okay, you may remember I mentioned in the last episode that all my emails in my Yahoo mailbox were being STOLEN or DELETED! Then how come I could still see this email when I talked to the Police?
The reason being, after I found that all my mails were gone by using my desktop computer in office to log in Yahoo, I did not try to ‘re-login’ to the mail via iPhone. Hence it still retained the image of those emails that have been downloaded previously. I hence took a snapshot of this suspicious “Yahoo Alert” email and what’s app to the Policeman as evidence.
Here you go for those who had receive the fake email (regarding I mugged in Philippines). Be alert as someone already know your email address and may send you that same…
This is a very painful and troublesome lesson to learn. Hope this has not caused inconvenience to my friends or counterparts who were on my address book!
bad luck has anything to do with virus? If not, why is it being spread like
morning … got up with high spirit, thinking of taking my MacBook Pro (“MBP”) to
Apple Shop to repair (click here to read). So I brought
it with me to work. On my way to
office, my best friend 小S
asked via what’s app to have lunch together, I said yes but just need to leave some
time for going to the Apple Shop …
another good friend R, who is also my personal IT helpdesk, called up to asked
about my MBP. We had a good chat
about the repair strategy and update each other about our recent life. What a good start of the day!
before I went into a meeting, around a quarter after 10 o’clock I noted from my
iPhone that someone sent a fake email to myself using my name and my Yahoo email
of a sudden, chaos and nightmares came around without a hints, I literally did
not have any effort to deal with my MBP at all starting from that moment...
fake email was about “I am being mugged in Philippines and ask for financial
help from my friends (to lend me USD3,000!)”.
I first read it, I didn’t pay much attention to it as I received the same
several days ago from my high school teacher. I knew it’s fake and thought that even if my friends receive
this, they are smart enough to judge it.
So I went into the meeting without any action.
I finished my meeting around an hour later, I noted quite a number of missed
calls and what’s app messages on my iPhone. Some of these were from my business counterpart such as
property agent etc.
replied the missed calls and what’s app messages one by one, all of them were
asking about my safety. Thanks
explained to my friends just ignore that email as I am safe and now going to
work as usual. However, I started
to worry as it looks like a lot of people, probably all contacts in my address
book, had received the fake email.
then check my other email address via my iphone as well and noted something
actually went wrong…
was a notification email from sent by Yahoo to my alternate address (an email
address not from Yahoo that I provided to them when I opened the Yahoo account). The notification was sent at 10:06
(which was around 10 minutes before the fake email was sent); and it said that
a new email address, which is almost exactly the same as my Yahoo email address,
has been added to my Yahoo id…
Someone was trying to cone my identity!
immediately log in to the Yahoo id via my desktop computer at office. Though I can get into it, the nightmare
THE EMAILS AND FOLDERS THERE, including over a thousand personal emails
carrying a lot of my personal information from address, phone no. or even
property information, were ALL GONE!! I tried to change my password immediately but looked like it's been changed ... but I wasn't sure because though I could see my mailbox but I couldn't get into my account profile and setting!!
In the email box, basically
nothing being left in my mail box, i.e. all my emails and information were
being STOLEN or DELETED!!
finally recognize the seriousness and have a quick discussion with my friend
and my boss for their advice. I
hence decided to report this to the Police immediately…
of this, my lunch with 小S
started at the Police station!
Apple Shop …
